RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Despite not having been officially announced, Flamengo's administrative assistant Marcos Braz announced on Thursday that Emerson is on his way out of the club.
The news comes just one day after the team was eliminated from the South American Cup by Fluminense.
Emerson, the team's star striker, is expected to leave Brazil in order to play for Al-Ain from the United Arab Emirates. The player has been actively sought out by teams in the UAE but Flamengo held out as long as they could in hopes for better and more lucrative offers.
According to Braz, Emerson recently asked to be traded. Despite fulfilling his self-proclaimed childhood dream while playing at Flamengo, Emerson is looking to play abroad.
The offer from Al-Ain stands at 2.4 million U.S. dollars. Braz claims that they cannot reject the offer or the player's wishes to leave.
Emerson did not appear at Flamengo's team practice on Thursday, attempting to create a distance that will help to break the separation from his current team. The striker played in 26 games while wearing the Flamengo jersey, scoring 11 goals.
