LIMA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Peru called up on Friday seven foreign-based players to be part of the Peruvian soccer national team for the World Cup South American qualifier next month.
Among the players are Daniel Chavez (Bruges, Belgium), Juan Vargas (Fiorentina, Italy), Alberto Rodriguez (Braga, Portugal), Hernan Rengifo (Lech Prozac, Poland), Paolo Guerrero (Hamburg, Germany), Carlos Zambrano (Schalke 04, Germany) and Johan Fano (Once Caldas, Colombia).
The rest of the squad will be summoned on Aug. 24.
Peru currently is in the last place of the standings. It will face Uruguayan team in Lima, and Venezuelan team in Caracas. Uruguay and Venezuela need victories to assure the fourth and fifth place.
