MADRID, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid's Brazilian midfielder Kaka said on Wednesday that his side's main rival in Europe this season would be reigning Spanish and European Champion FC Barcelona.
Kaka is one of Real Madrid's 'Galactico' signings for the newcampaign as club President Florentino Perez aims to build a team capable of winning the Champions League in the season as the finalis to be held in the club's Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
With new arrivals such as Kaka as well Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Xabi Alonso, Madrid has spent around 250 million euros on its squad, but Kaka said that Barcelona will still be the team to beat.
"Barcelona is the favorite, because it is the reigning champion," Kaka said on the official Real Madrid website.
"We are building a team that will be able to rival Barcelona in Spain and we are all very motivated to do that, but there are other rivals in Europe, such as the English and Italian sides as well as any surprise that could appear in the group stage," he said.
Real Madrid is still in pre-season and although results have been positive, there are still questions about how so many star players can play together that need to be answered before the Primera Liga kicks off on the weekend of August 29 and 30.
"In a few days, the competition will tell us at what level we really are," he said, before sounding out a warning to the rest of the Spanish clubs.
"Every day I have a better understanding with Cristiano Ronaldo, both on and off the pitch," said Kaka.
