RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Brazil head coach Dunga on Thursday announced Adriano's return to his team that will face Chile and Argentina in the upcoming 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
Adriano was released from the national team after he went missing following the team's 3-0 victory over Peru on Apr. 1. Disappointed with his lack of playing time, the striker decided to blow off some steam and unwind with his friends in the city of Riode Janeiro. Consequently, the player did not return to his Italian club, Internazionale, leading to his dismissal and eventual signing with Flamengo.
At Flamengo, Adriano has recaptured the attention of the Brazilian Confederation of Soccer. Adriano is currently in a three-way tie for the most goals scored in this year's Brazilian Championship with 10 goals after 20 rounds. His apparent new found maturity has earned him another chance with Dunga.
Brazil will travel to play Argentina on Sept. 5. On Sept. 9, Brazil will host Chile in the city of Salvador. After 14 rounds of play in the qualifiers, the Brazilians are leading their group with 27 points, just one point ahead of second place Chile. Argentina is standing in fourth place with 22 points.
