U.S. lawmaker urges NBA to stop age limit

WASHINGTON, June 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. congressman Steve Cohen has asked the NBA to scrap the requirement that players be at least 19 years old and a year out of high school before entering the league.

Cohen wrote letters to the NBA commissioner David Stern and union leader Billy Hunter to ask for dropping the requirement.

Cohen, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, on Wednesday called the requirement "an unfair restriction on the rights of these young men to pursue their intended career," according to AP.

The NBA spokesman Tim Frank said they would review the letter before they give an answer.
