China sweeps Turkey for second straight win at volleyball int'l

LUOHE, Henan, May 31 (Xinhua) -- China took an easy 3-0 victory over Turkey here Saturday night for its second straight win at the 2009 China International Women's Volleyball Tournament.

Middle blocker Xue Ming scored 16 points including seven stuffs to lead the Beijing Olympic bronze medallists to the 25-17, 25-13 and 25-17 victory.

"We play better than we did in the first match against Dominican Republic," said Cai Bin, who took the helm of the Chinese national team in March.

"In the first match, our players were anxious to play well, but they couldn't. This time they are able to display what they can do in training."

Wang Yimei, who changed her position from outside hitter to opposite under the guidance of Cai, improved on her play in the first match to contribute 11 points for China.

"She didn't play to her standard in the first match, but today she played much better, showing good fighting spirit," said the 42-year-old Cai, who had coached the Chinese national youth team from 2002 to 2008.

Libero Zhang Xian added 10 excellent digs to the solid Chinese defense, which turned out to be too much for the light Turkish attack.

Earlier on Saturday, Cuba also collected its second victory in two days by beating Dominican Republic 25-12, 17-25, 25-21 and 25- 14, setting up an actual title clash with China on Sunday.

"We know Cuba is a very strong team, we will just play the best we can," Cai said.

Four teams are playing in the round robin tournament here in Luohe with a second leg set for Kunshan, Jiangsu province next week.
