MADRID, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola watched his side achieve a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Sporting Gijon on Monday night, before moving on Tuesday morning to calm expectations among the club's fans.
Goals from Bojan Krkic, Seydou Keita and a debut strike from Zlatan Ibrahimovich gave Barcelona the points in its first Primera Liga game of the season.
Last season Barcelona won a domestic and European treble and this year has seen Guardiola's men add the Spanish Supercup and the European Supercup to the trophy cabinet.
However, despite the ease of the opening day win, Guardiola warned it will not be easy to achieve a repeat performance.
"This invention doesn't work that way. If we can win one title this season, it will be a great year," he insisted on the club website.
Although he didn't promise titles, Guardiola did promise that his men would be giving their all on the pitch.
"Effort is the one thing that we can never give up on. It's quite normal at this club to go around saying how good we are after a win and that is when you lose matches."
"The important thing for me is that there is not one player who can say he didn't give everything and make a big effort."
"I can't criticize my team for this match, we have worked hard and we have scored three goals," he added.
Guardiola also praised new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovich, who scored his first goal for the club on his third appearance
"He is very generous in his efforts. He played all 90 minutes today and that is good news. He will score goals, but today I will remember the way he battled," said the Barcelona coach.
