Avai blasts Barueri 4-0 to end losing streak

RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Avai beat Barueri 4-0 on Sunday in the 25th round of Brazilian soccer championship to turn around their recent three-game losing streak.

Avai's goals came from William in the 21st minute, Eltinho on 28 minutes, Muriqui at 74 and Leo Gago at 82.

With their blow-out, Avai surpasses Barueri with 37 points and now stand in 7th place.

For Baueri, the loss takes them down to the 11th place with 36 points.

Both teams played in the second division of the Brazilian Championship last year, but won the promotion to the first division in 2009.

As they currently stand, both clubs will remain among the Brazilian soccer elite for next year's tournament.
