Real Madrid coach insists on keeping Sunday goalscorers

MADRID, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini said on Monday he had no intention of selling the players who had scored the goals in Sunday night's victory over DC United.

Two second half goals from Gonzalo Higuain and one from Arjen Robben gave Real Madrid the win in the second game of the club's North American tour.

However, the goals came only after big name summer signings Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema had failed to get on the score sheet.

In some way it vindicated both Higuain and Robben, two players whose first team place is in doubt after Real Madrid's summer spending.

Higuain was top scorer for Real Madrid last season. The 21-year-old Argentinean scored 22 Primera Liga goals in the last campaign and Pellegrini insists he has never given the OK for the club to sell one of its most promising players.

"We have got good variation in the squad with Robben and Higuain, they are both important," said Pellegrini on the club's official website.

Higuain was a first choice player in the Real Madrid starting 11 last season, but with Ronaldo and Benzema having joined the club and captain Raul a looming presence in the dressing room, it is hard to see how he is going to start games at the start of the new season despite his form last year.

Pellegrini does not see things that way.

"Higuain's performance does not change his status at the club. He has never been available for transfer and he is going to have an important role to play," said the Madrid coach, who had a similar opinion about Robben.

"I am going to reiterate what I have said before. I am counting on all of the squad, on Robben, (Wesley) Sneijder, Cristiano, Benzema, Raul. We don't need to sell any players and there is nobody who is for sale," he insisted.
