Adriano comes up injured and will not face Fluminense

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo's star striker and recently incorporated member of the Brazilian national soccer team Adriano felt a strain on his right hamstring on Tuesday's practice and will not play in Wednesday's match against Fluminense.

Adriano arrived 40 minutes late to Tuesday's practice and ended up causing a worry among the team doctors with his complaints of pain.

Flamengo will play Fluminense in the return leg of the first round of play in this year's South American Cup. The game between the cross-town rivals will be held at the Maracana stadium on August 26.

Due to Adriano's absence, Denis Marques will fill Adriano's shoes. The striker has yet to score a goal in a Flamengo uniform.

Adriano still has hope to being able to play in Wednesday's game and helping his team to qualify to the next round of play in the South American Cup.

He also wants to prove that he is strong and that his minor injury will not keep him from playing.

The striker was recently reinstated to the Brazilian national team in their upcoming battle against Argentina and Chile for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

Should Wednesday's match end in another 0-0 tie, the game will be taken to penalty kicks to determine the first round winner.
