RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Thrilled to see their star attraction back on the field, the home crowd could do nothing on Sunday as Goias walked all over Corinthians by 4-1.
Ronaldo's return caused commotion, but the Goias defense shut him and the rest of the Corinthians offense down.
Goias scored three goals before Corinthians could respond. The first came in the 7th minute when Julio Cesar assisted Iarley right in front of the Corinthians net, pushing the ball in for the first goal of the night.
The team's recent arrival, Fernandao, scored in the 23rd minute off a great individual play inside of the penalty box. Iarley scored the team's third goal in the 50th minute, spinning off the defense and rolling the ball into the home team's net.
Corinthians finally got on the board in the 73rd minute when Dentinho headed in a twice-deflected ball in front of the Goias net.
Ronaldo had few opportunities at the goal. His best look came in the 67th minute, dribbling between two defenders, but the ball was deflected and sent out of danger.
Goias scored the last goal of the match in the 79th minute. Off a stopped ball, Julio Cesar sent the ball towards Joao Paulo who then headed the ball into the net.
With their impressive victory, Goias improved to fourth place with 42 points. Corinthians dropped to ninth place with 37 points after 25 rounds of play in the Brazilian Championship.
