Granero optimistic over Real return

MADRID, July 20. (Xinhua) -- Midfielder Esteban Granero said on Monday he was optimistic of making a surprise return to Real Madrid.

Granero, who is currently with Primera Liga side Getafe, has been mentioned as a possible alternative for the big spending Real should attempts to buy Liverpool's Spain international Xabi Alonso fail.

Real Madrid has until July 30 to take up a clause that would allow the club to buy the 22-year-old. For Granero, who is a product of the Real Madrid youth system, it would be a dream return to the club that he joined as an eight year-old.

"At the moment all I know is what I have heard from my agent, because I have heard nothing directly from Real Madrid," Granero told sports paper Diario AS.

Real Madrid only sold Granero to Getafe a year ago, but the midfielder made it clear that he would jump at the chance to return to the club where he has spent most of his life.

"Ever since I was a youngster, my dream was to succeed at Real Madrid. If I go back there now, it is obvious that I would make the most of it," he added.

Real Madrid has already spent over 215 million euros this summer in signing Cristiano Ronaldo as well as Brazilian ace Kaka and French striker Karim Benzema from Lyon.

Spain international Raul Albiol has also joined the club from Valencia, but Real is thought to want a central midfielder and another defender before the new season kicks off.
