Real Madrid winger Robben resists attempts to sell him

MADRID, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid winger Arjen Robben said on Wednesday that he would resist any attempt to force him to leave the club.

Robben, a 35 million Euro capture from Chelsea two years ago, is on the list of players the club wishes to sell to make room for new arrivals such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Kaka.

The Dutch international has shown flashes of brilliance during his time at Madrid, but has also been prone to niggling muscle injuries.

Nevertheless his two goals in the club's last two friendly matches against Toronto FC and DC United, have shown that he can be important to the squad and he has no desire to move on.

"I don't want to leave Real Madrid. I am at the biggest club in the world and I want to form part of the great project that we are just beginning," he told sports paper Diario Marca.

Robben has so far been linked with a series of English clubs, among them are Tottenham Hotspurs and Liverpool, but he insisted that his idea was to compete for a place in the Real Madrid side.

"I am doing everything possible to continue here. I think that I can give a lot to Real Madrid and I am not contemplating leaving the club," he insisted.

The club is also looking to sell striker Alvaro Negredo to either Hull City, Blackburn Rovers or Zenit Saint Petersburg, while Wesley Sneijder is wanted by Inter Milan.

Meanwhile Rafael Van der Vaart could return to Germany after just one season in Spain.
