Casillas: anything other than titles will be failure for Real Madrid

MADRID, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas said on Tuesday that should his side fail to win silverware this season it would have to be considered a total failure.

Real Madrid has spend over half of the money that has been destined for transfers this summer, splashing out over 250 million euros to sign players of the calibre and fame of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso.

The side won its opening game of the Primera Liga campaign 3-2 at home to Deportivo la Coruna with a performance that shows that although there is huge talent in the side, the team still needs to gel as a unit.

Speaking to television station La Sexta, Casillas highlighted that it would need time to see the best of Real Madrid.

"We have only just started. The squad has once again, undergone a large metamorphosis and there have been a lot of changes. So it is normal that we have still things we need to work on, however, as we play more games, I am certain that we will become more coordinated," he said.

The goalkeeper knows that spending so much money on star players will bring added pressure to win titles.

"I don't know which I would rather win, but it would be an authentic disaster to not win anything with the team that we have."

"I hope that this season we can win as many, if not more trophies as Barcelona, however, it would be a huge error to start talking about winning the treble."

"What we have to do is take things step by step, one game at a time," he said.
